Frank A. Cottrill Jr. began life on earth May 1, 1921, in Morgantown, W.Va. Surrounded by his loving family, he entered eternal life in heaven on his 89th birthday, May 1, 2010, where he heard these beautiful words: "Well done, good and faithful servant ... Welcome into the joy of your Lord!"
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank A. Cottrill Sr. and Bertha Stump-Linger Cottrill and his sister, Mabel Johnson.
Frank graduated from Morgantown High School in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant with the 368th Infantry in 1943. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Normandy on June 10, 1944.
Frank is beloved husband to Ronnie; and devoted, loving and respected father to Doug Cottrill of Marana, Connie Buchanan (Gary) of Helena, Mont., Chuck Cottrill (Espe) of Tucson, Sherri Wallace (Steve) of Phoenix, Mark Bell (Linda) of Sandpoint, Idaho, Mike Bell (Ruth) of San Diego, Calif., and Shelly Foster (Michael) of Phoenix. In addition to these, Frank was a loving and supportive grandpa to 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom were made to feel special by their grandpa. He is also survived by his nephew, David Johnson and family; and cousin Bill Cottrill and family both of Morgantown, W.Va.
Frank Cottrill leaves a legacy few men can claim: a legacy of humility, courage and servant-hood; devotion to God, family, and country; and most of all a legacy of love for his wife and all of the many children.
He will be missed, but never forgotten.
Memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Prescott, Ariz.
