UPSHAW, Delbert Richard


Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Tuesday, May 4th, 2010 Delbert Richard Upshaw, age 80 of San Carlos, Ariz., passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Ft. McDowell, Ariz. on March 12, 1930, the son of Harry and Eva (Dickens) Upshaw. He worked as a heavy equipment operator/ mechanic for the San Carlos Apache Tribe. Delbert grew up in San Carlos. He attended some school at St. John's and played as a quarterback for San Carlos High School. Delbert worked for B.I.A. Forestry, Pinto Valley and Crystal & Regal Asbestos Mine by Seneca Lake. Delbert enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He also backed a little league baseball team. He raised Michael and Gabriel Jackson as his own sons. Delbert is survived by his wife, Lona Upshaw; his children, Christine (Harry) Salaba, Richard Upshaw, Rachel (Jeff) Long, Ruth (Timothy) Burnette, Annette (Dempsey, Jr.) Bylas; his sisters, Martha Camancho and Delphine Rena; and brother, Ernest Bullis; 24 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Wake was held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Upshaw's residence. Funeral services were held on May 2 at the Church of Latter Day Saints in San Carlos, Ariz. Interment will be at San Carlos Cemetery - Mormon Hill Road. Assisting the family is Lamont Mortuary.
