COOKE, Harry D., Sr.

Cooke, Sr. HD Cooke, Sr. a retired building contractor and carpenter, died Friday, August 22, at 5:30 PM at Edna Anthony’s Nursing Home in Wickenburg. He was 92. Mr. Cooke was born in Thayer, KA, on December 10, 1882. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1903-1906 as a member of the occupation and Surveillance Unit, during which time he circumnavigated the globe twice immediately following the Spanish-American War. He moved from Colorado to Wickenburg in 1930, working in the building and carpentry business until his retirement in 1958. Following this retirement, Mr. Cooke worked for the Los Caballeros Guest Ranch as maintenance man for 10 years. During this time, Mr. Cooke and his late wife Avia spent the summers as gatekeepers at the A-A Ranch in Wyoming. Services were held at the Wickenburg Mortuary on Monday, August 25 at 10 AM Cremation followed. Survivors include three sons; Harry Jr and Richard of Wickenburg, and K Dan of Durham, CA; one daughter, Betty Peterson of Morgan Hill, CA; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
