The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, December 3, 2007 Philip C. VanDerHeyden, Jr. Passed away on Monday, December 1, 2003. Philip was born in Chicago, IL on May 15, 1934. Attended all Catholic schools and graduated from St. George High School, Evanston, IL in 1952. He became a Pipe Fitter Apprentice when called into the service of his country (U.S. Air Force) from 1954-1958. He married Suzanne A. Clark on Nov. 7, 1959. They have three children and six grandchildren. Lived and raised their children in the Chicago area for 51 years. He retired from Pipe Fitter Local #597 in 1984, after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. While attending St. Victor Parish in Calumet City, IL, Phil was ordained a deacon in May 1984. In October 1985, he and his wife, Suzanne, moved to Mesa, AZ. He remained an active deacon at Christ the King Parish in Mesa until the present. He was diagnosed with renal cell cancer in July that had metastasized to his lungs and brain. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, brother, Warren, Gilbert, AZ, sister, Phyllis, Prospect Heights, IL, daughter, Suzanne Neumann, Bolingbrook, IL, Son Philip, III, Hammond, IN, daughter, Margaret Mary Seeber, Mesa, AZ and six beloved grandchildren, many devoted nieces and nephews. Phil was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The lives he has touched cannot be measured. He gave of himself in service whenever called upon. Visitation will be held Thurs. Dec. 4, 2003 from 5-8 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 E Dana Ave., Mesa. Mass will be Friday Dec. 5, 2003 at 10:00 am at the Church.
