L.A. "Verne" Shirk, 71, passed away December 2, 2003 at his home in Pinetop. He retired from Garrett, (now known as Honeywell) in October 1993. He was the manager of manufacturing Garrett Turbine Engine Division. Verne is survived by his wife, Wallie Simpson Shirk of Pinetop; 2 sons, David & Phillip Shirk; 1 daughter, Dina Sherman; 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. In lieu of flowers the family wished donations be made to American Lung & Heart Association. Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low.
