Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ 4/22/2008 Walter W. Buck 1926 - 2008 Walter William Buck, of Cornville, died Friday, April 18, 2008. Walter was 81 years old. He was born Dec. 3, 1926, to Jesse and Myrtle Buck in Macy, Neb. Walter was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946 on the USS Bagley a destroyer operating out of Pearl Harbor and assigned to the Southwest Pacific Force. He married Marlene Marie Otoupal on November 19, 1949, in Waterville, Minn. In 1957 Walter and Marlene moved to Phoenix, where for over 25 years Walter was a plaster and drywall contractor. They moved to Cornville in 1979, and with the help of his children he built the family home. Walter was a member of the Cornville Fire District Board for eight years. Together with his wife and family they enjoyed the outdoors with many camping and fishing trips, with Roosevelt Lake being their favorite for crappie fishing. He was also an avid hunter. Walter leaves behind his wife of 59 years Marlene Marie (Otoupal) Buck, their three children Michael E. Buck (Toni), Lynn Hoy (Randy) and Randy Buck; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and his brother Ron Buck (Karen) of Florida. A Mass will be celebrated in honor of his life Saturday, April 26, at 8:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish on State Route 260 and Bill Grey Road.
