KNOWLES, John Damian

Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Jan. 31, 2007 John Damian Knowles died Jan. 26, 2007, in Lamar, Colo. He was born Oct. 13, 1962. John was a 1981 graduate of Mingus Union High School. He was raised in the Verde Valley from 1969 until his high school graduation. John played football, basketball, and baseball growing up with his brothers and all of his wonderful childhood friends. After high school, he attended New Mexico Military Institute and earned a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He then attended Arizona State University, where he received his BS in Business Administration. He served eight years as an officer in the Air Defense Artillery branch, including service in Iraq, and was honorably discharged as a captain from his last assignment in Germany. He returned to the Verde Valley and became a Realtor, working for Selna & Associates. He recently moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., to be closer to his youngest daughter Meagan. John is survived by his two daughters; Dominique Knowles of Cottonwood, Meagan Knowles, Colorado Springs, Colo., two grandchildren; his mother, Barbara Knowles, of Dewey, two sisters Cathy Kenson, Christine Seall, and three brothers, Steve Knowles, Mike Knowles, and Kevin Knowles. The funeral service will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cottonwood, on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The American Cancer Society.
