Murphy, Gene Gene Murphy, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather returned to Our Savior, Jesus Christ November 29, 2003. Survivors include his wife Irma, Scottsdale; daughters, Beverly Rockvarn (Greg), Chino Hills, CA., Joellen Tenison (Jay), Scottsdale, sons, Mike Murphy (Jody), Paradise Valley, Terry Murphy (Pam), Phil Murphy (LeAnne), Steve Murphy (Sherrie) all of Phoenix. Fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Wall, Jolley, IA., and Ann Sullivan, Fort Dodge, IA, sisters-in-law Helen and Alice Murphy of Fonda, IA. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Nell (McLaughlin) Murphy, brothers Leon, William, Ray, Francis and Joseph. Gene Murphy was born January 4, 1923 in Fonda, IA. He received his education at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School. He married Irma Baker September 20, 1948 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Laurens, IA. He farmed in the Fonda area until moving to Arizona in 1958 for family health reasons. He then worked for Herseth Packing Plant warehousing meat and cattle buying. Gene retired from the construction and contracting business. Gene entered the Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was also a dedicated usher at Blessed Sacrament Church. Gene's hobbies included hunting, horses, antique cars, and hospitality with his friends. The family invites all those who wish to come and celebrate Gene's life Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the family home. Irish theme memorial Mass for Gene to be held, Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 11300 N. 64th Street, Scottsdale, Arizona.
