Henson, Lawrence L.
Lawrence L. Henson, age 80, of 1902 New High Street, Rock Falls died Tuesday December 9, 2003 at CGH Medical Center. He fought the good fight and now he is at peace with His Lord and Savior. Mr. Henson was born May 28, 1923 in Walnut, Illinois the son of Homer and Minerva (Fordham) Henson. He married Kathleen Adolph on July 31, 1942 in Dixon. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal with the 2nd Armored Amphibian Battalion during WW II. While serving in the Marines, he fought during the Saipan and Tinian campaign. He was employed at NWS&W in the Furnace Department as a First Helper and retired in 1985 after 38 years. He was a member of Harvest Time Bible Church, Marine Corp League, Rock Falls V.F.W., Rock Falls American Legion, Sterling-Rock Falls Elks Lodge 1218, and United Steelworkers of America. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, taking walks on the Hennepin Canal, and was a Mark Martin NASCAR fan. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors included his loving wife, Kathleen of Rock Falls; one daughter, Carol (Joseph) Michlig of Sterling; one son, Larry (Carol) Henson of Glendale, Arizona; three sisters, Irene Jones of Rock Falls, Gloria Johnson of Rock Falls, Sandy (Dick) Hall of Sterling; four brothers, Jack (Betty) Henson of Sarasota, Florida, Robert (Pauline) Henson of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Charles (Betty) Henson of Sterling, Ronnie (Evelyn) Henson of Sterling; eight grandchildren, Marcia (Rob) Hix, Valerie (Don) King, Bonnie (Kevin) Brown, Joseph (Wendy) Michlig, Steven (Dawn) Michlig, Melissa Michlig, Shawn (Deb) Henson, Michelle (David) Fetveit; and eleven great-grandchildren, Megan Beinter, Rachel and Ryan Hix, Jacob and John King, Thomas Brown, Amanda and Amber Michlig, Daniel, Jared, Caleb Fetviet. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Barbara Henson, Sylvia Childs, and one brother in infancy. Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Harvest Time Bible Church. Funeral services will be Friday, December 12. 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Harvest Time Bible Church with Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor, officiating. Burial will conclude at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. A memorial has been established in his memory.
