THOMAS, Jane B.

(Maiden Name: McCarthy)

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, December 10, 2003 Jane B. (McCarthy) Thomas, 86, passed away on Dec. 4, 2003 at home accompanied by her son and daughter. Jane first loved AZ in the early 1930's while passing through southern AZ by train and returned in 1948 with her husband and children to Tucson. She quickly and indelibly instilled her love for poetry, SW art, photo-graphy, horses, dogs and the "Spirit of Arizona", in her family. She was a very intelligent, sensitive, creative and caring person with family and friends. She was also proud of her family history with railroads and ranching. In later years she expressed her creativity and spirit in family, gardening, dogs, and politics. Jane had tremendous respect for the contributions of elder Arizona statesmen: Goldwater, Hayden, Rhodes, and the Udalls. Should one approach her, even 2 weeks ago, with a political view, they would be well served to have their facts well organized. Jane was preceded in death by Dr. Arthur R. Thomas, OD on Sept. 16, 1995, her mother Loretta Naomi (Tobin) McCarthy in 1935, her father Michael Thomas McCarthy in 1975 and her grandson Sean Michael Thomas in 1965. Jane is survived by her son, Michael R. Thomas, her daughter, Donna Jane Foster, granddaughters Amber Jane Arnhold, Michelle R. Mason, Shannon R. Jones and great-grandchildren, Quintin Thomas Jones and Audrey Rose Mason. Petite in Size, A Giant in Spirit, little Jane B. (McCarthy) Thomas will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 12, at 1:00 pm, at Green Acres Chapel of Light, 401 North Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ.
