Dr. John W. Streff of Prescott, Ariz., died at the Bob Stump Veterans Affairs Medical Center May 6, 2010, at the age of 83. He was born in Canby, Minn.
John joined the United States Navy V5 program after high school and attended U of M before choosing the Chicago School of Optometry for his life profession. His experience as a staff member of the Gesell Institute of Yale University led him to research and education. He has won many awards and honors for work in vision rehabilitation.
In 1950, he married Luella Fashenbauer in St. Paul, Minn. They raised five sons, Greg, Mark, Dean, Chad and Peter. Luella died in 2002. John retired from clinical practice but continued to lecture and write articles for professional magazines. In 2005, he married Marlys Winkels of Prescott, Ariz., and moved west.
Survivors include his sons; two brothers, Larry and Al; three sisters, Susan, Pauline and Cathy; wife Marlys; and her family of sons Bob and Jeff and daughters Mary, Mona and Anne. Survivors also include his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John lived a great life!
A funeral mass and burial will be in Lancaster, Ohio.
