Raymond Peregrin Kane, 74, died Dec. 1, 2004 at his home in Whiteriver.
Raymond was born in Cedar Creek and attended school at St. John's Mission in Laveen. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in Korea. Upon returning home he met Becky Way and they were married. They lived happily together for 47 years and had four beautiful daughters. Raymond held various administrative and public relations positions within the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
After his retirement in 1995 he enjoyed spending time outdoors taking his grand kids for long drives in the mountains to help them appreciate their beautiful reservation. Raymond especially enjoyed fishing. He had a strong belief in the traditional Apache ways and also in his Catholic faith.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Becky; four daughters, Beverly Kane, Rayleen (Lee) Benashley, Rayetta Kane, and Ramona (Rolland) Armstrong, III, all of Whiteriver; two brothers, Kino Kane and Billy Kane of Whiteriver; one godson, Charles Aster of San Carlos; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He will be brought back to his residence in Whiteriver Sunday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. and a Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. that day. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at the St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Eddie Fronske officiating. Interment will be at the Red Hillside cemetery in Cedar Creek.
