Floyd Nolan Tipton was born April 30, 1934 to Floyd Edward And Lillie J. Tipton in Duncan. He grew up in the area of Miami and Globe during his grade school years and later returned to Duncan where he attended high school. He enjoyed playing baseball, football and basketball.
After graduating high school he attended Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher. Nolan went to work for Phelps Dodge Morenci, in Morenci. He then enlisted in the Navy in Clifton Nov. 12, 1955, where he obtained the rank of E4 Gunner and served his country until Oct. 6, 1959 when he was honorably discharged. While living in California he worked in the Instrumentation Technology field and later taught his son Tom.
He married Barbara Duncan in 1962. Together they raised four children Mark, Peri, Tom and Randy. Nolan was previously married and his first daughter was named Terry Lynn. He and his family lived in Morenci, Duncan, Sahuarita and later the family moved to Texas. While in Texas he had the opportunity to volunteer coach teenage children to play baseball, with the help of his older sons. Nolan and Barbara later returned to Arizona where they retired in Springerville.
Peri fondly remembers her mom and dad having a big blast going crawdad fishing at Big Lake. They were most happy when they lived at Casa Malpais Campground, where they met new friends and enjoyed potlucks, playing washers, fishing and hand and foot card games in the afternoons and evenings. Nolan enjoyed country music and liked to book gigs for his buddies that performed locally in the White Mountains with a band called Pure Country.
He is survived by three granddaughters, Jessica, Autumn and Lauren; six grandsons Ryan, Shane, Parker, Travis, Dustin and Christian and great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Nevaeh.
A memorial service was held May 7, at the Jesus First Baptist Church in Eagar.
