Marcelino Guerra Vasquez, 96, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 in Snowflake.
He was born and raised in Kyle, Texas. While growing up in Kyle he met and married Felicita Govea. Shortly after they were married Marcelino proudly served his country in the Philippines during World War II.
After his separation from the military he returned to Austin, Texas to start his family. They had six beautiful children, Guadalupe, Maria, Albert, Rosie, Margaret and Johnny. Marcelino worked all of his life as a tile setter, gaining a reputation as an expert in the field. He once laid tile in Lyndon Johnson's home. When he was 95, he moved to Show Low, to be with his daughter.
Marcelino had a wonderful sense of humor and he was a good husband and father. He was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church attending St. Rita's in Show Low every week. Marcelino enjoyed fixing things in his pastime. He had tremendous mechanical ability. Marcelino will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Marcelino is survived by his two sons, Albert (Mary Ellen) Vasquez of Elgin, Texas, Johnny (Josie) Vasquez of Austin, Texas; 2 daughters, Maria (Juan) Cardona of Elgin, Texas, Margaret (Orlando) Chavez of Show Low; two brothers, John Vasquez of California, Ben Vasquez of Austin, Texas; one sister, Trina (Seferino) Alvarado of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
His wife; one son, Guadalupe Vasquez and one daughter Rosie Castillo preceded him in death.
Services will be held in Austin, Texas.
Owens Mortuary of Show Low, AZ handled the arrangements.
