BROWN, Lloyd Nicholson


Lloyd Nicholson Brown, age 81, of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Columbus, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at Heartland of Marysville Nursing Home following a four month battle with cancer. He was associated with Buckeye Federal Savings in Columbus for 32 years before retiring in 1979 as a director and senior vice-president. During his professional career, he served numerous terms on the boards of directors of the Columbus Board of Realtors, Central Ohio Home Builders Association, and the Columbus Mortgage Bankers Association. He was a retired member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers where he held the designation, M.A.I. Mr. Brown attended Franklin University in Columbus, was a graduate of the American Savings and Loan Institute, the Ohio Savings and Loan Academy, and The Ohio State University Executive Development Program. His charitable endeavors included at various times serving as director of the Central Community House, as member of the Charity Newsies, and as chairman of the financial division of the annual United Way Drive, all in Columbus. He was a 50 year member of the West Gate Masonic Lodge and was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy where he trained as a radar operator and saw duty in the Pacific Theater. He served his Lord over the years as an active member of several Methodist congregations in Ohio, and since relocating to Arizona, he has been a member of the Christian Fellowship of the Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. He loved golf and while in Ohio served several terms as a director for Brookside Golf and Country Club. After retiring to Arizona, he stayed active in the sport, most recently being a member of the Mountain Shadow Golf Club. He was born April 21, 1921 in Columbus to the late Maurice T. and Alice Nicholson Brown. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Daryl Davis. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Collins Brown, a resident of Carriage Court, whom he married in June of 1940; a son: Lloyd (Carole) Brown, Jr., Arden, North Carolina; 2 daughters: Nancy (Steve) Murray, Irwin; and Margaret (David) Benjamin; 10 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren; and a brother: Robert C. (Betty) Brown, Columbus. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marysville. Reverend Thomas Hackett will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at the Paradise Valley United Methodist Church Columbarium Memorial Garden in Arizona. No calling hours will be observed.
