ABNEY, Allen Edward


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 01/04/2005 Allen Edward Abney died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 in Sun City at the age of 77. He was born Feb. 20, 1927 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Charles and Lillie Abney. Allen served in the Army Air Force during WWII. After serving his country, he bought a Texaco service station. He owned service stations from 1948 to 1957, between switching careers to furniture representative. He retired from the furniture industry in 1989. Allen worked hard to provide for his family and he treated friends and strangers with respect and honor. After retirement, he and Gloria moved to Show Low. In 2002, they took up residence in Sun City part Tim to care for Gloria's Aunt Cora, a centenarian. Allen attended White Mountain Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria; children, Mark (Oznur), Ann, Jeff (Tina), Larry and Steve; grandchildren, Brandon, Trevor and Megan; one sister, Lelia Sandoz and one brother, Myrle Dean Abney. He was preceded in death by his two brothers. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to his grand kids' upcoming missions trip to Grenada through Northwest Community Church, 16615 N. 43rd Ave., Phoenix. AZ 85053 or to the Phoenix Rescue Mission. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 5-8 p.m. A memorial service will be Thursday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at Messenger Mortuary located at Indian School Rd. and Miller in Scottsdale. Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at White Mountain Christian Church, 2966 Tall Pine Rd.
