Showalter, Mary Jane Mary Jane Showalter, 69, of Peoria passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003. Mary was born on Dec. 12, 1934 to Kermit and Dorothy Gates in Huntington, PA. Mary attended Ohio State University for two years prior to serving her country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force for 8 years. She had worked for Arizona State Department of Insurance for 15 years. Mary was previously Chairman of the Association for Girl Scouts, and served on the Girl Scouts Board of Directors for 3 years. Mary had received the Volunteer of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by her daughter Tracey Showalter; brothers, Karl and Don Gates; grandchildren Tareyn and Zane Fose. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 from 5 to 6 PM at Heritage Funeral Chapel 6830 W Thunderbird Rd., Peoria with funeral services following at 6pm. Graveside service Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, 10:30 AM in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, Az. Published in the Arizona Republic on 12/18/2003.
