McCauley, John F.
John F. McCauley, 80, passed away at home with family at his bedside on December 15, 2003. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Allison, and is survived by his wife at present, Delores, a son, Michael; a daughter, Randolyn; four step-sons, Devin, Harvey, Tim and Dan. Also his 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and beloved dog, Buddy. John was the son of John D. and Blanche McCauley and is also survived by brothers Harold, Don, Pat, and Tom, as well as a sister, Eleanor. John was born in North Vernon, Indiana, living there until joining the Air Force during World War II. After being discharged in Idaho, he attended the university there, earning a degree in education. In 1954 he moved his young family to Arizona where he began a teaching career that spanned almost 40 years, and resulted in lasting friendships with many students. He also served two terms as mayor of the City of Avondale. In 1970 he joined the Navel Reserve, remaining until 1983, resulting in a lifetime total of 20 years of service. He enjoyed a variety of interests and activities, including desert walks, dogs, good food, good books, home improvement, yard sales, people in general, and traveling with his wife in their RV, having crossed the country numerous times. Father, husband, friend, we've all been touched by your kindness and humor and we will miss you. Visitation hours are 6:00 PM to 8:00pm Sunday, December 21 at Best Funeral Services, 9380 W. Peoria Ave; burial will be Monday, 12:30 PM at Veteran's Cemetery, Cave Creek Rd and Pinnacle Peak Road.
