HESSENIUS - BENYSHEK, Mary

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, December 21, 2003 Mary Hessenius Benyshek was taken by the Lord on December 20, 2003 in Mesa, Arizona. Mary was born June 18, 1924 in Guernsey, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Catherine Sheda Koehn. She was baptized July 20, 1924 and confirmed at St Johns Lutheran Church. Mary was married to Vernon Hessenius at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Vernon joined the Lord January 1, 1967. Mary was joined in marriage to Douglas Benyshek June 15, 1973 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Arizona 1978. Mary is survived by her husband Douglas of Mesa, Az., 2 sons Phillip Hessenius of Phoenix, Az., Jeffrey Hessenius and wife Lauri of Mesa, 3 daughters Carol Miller and her husband Larry of Amarillo, Texas and Sarah Smith of Mesa, stepsons Gregory Benyshek of Calif., Bruce Benyshek and his wife Debbie of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Curtis Benyshek of Mesa, Az., 8 grandchildren. Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at Hosanna Lutheran Church 9601 E. Brown Road Mesa, Az. Visitation will Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Chapel 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, Az. Mary delighted in the art of sewing and decorating and placed the Lord first in her life. Contributions may be made to Hosanna Lutheran Church 9601 E. Brown Rd. Mesa, Az. to the preschool and music fund.
