PORTER, Harold Wright


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Thursday, May 13, 2010 Harold Wright Porter, 93, formerly of Flagstaff, died May 7, 2010, in Carlton, Ore. He was born June 29, 1916, in Lamesa, Texas. Mr. Porter was a retired machinist. He served in the U.S. military during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He was a volunteer at the Flagstaff Mission to the Navajos, the Sunshine Rescue Mission, the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission and at numerous retirement centers. He enjoyed the role of Santa at the Dundee, Ore., Fire Department, where he helped raise money for their Toy and Joy program. Mr. Porter is survived by daughters Bonnie Jean (Sue) Richardson of Carlton, Ore., and Kari Diane Brown of Portland, Ore.; sons Dr. Daniel V. Porter of Marietta, Ga., and Gaytha L. Porter of St. Lucie, Fla. He was preceded in death by six sisters and his wife, Bonnie Jean. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel, Newberg, Ore. Burial with military honors will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Newberg Friends Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Dayton Pioneer Evangelical Cemetery in Dayton, Ore.
