The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 01/18/2005 Goldie Mae West, 88, died peacefully at her home Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 in Taylor after a brief illness. She was born in Ethel, Macon County, Missouri, April 10, 1916 to James Harvey and Susie Ratliff Ralston. Goldie lived and worked near her hometown to support her two daughters after the death of her first husband until 1951 when the three of them relocated to Arizona. Throughout the ensuing years, she made homes in Mesa, Show Low, Vernon, Bowlegs, Oklahoma and finally in Taylor. Since joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1948, Goldie has been actively involved in church service and temple work, and fulfilled a genealogy mission in 1990-1991. She loved singing, serving, and being surrounded by her family. Goldie, know by most as "Grannie", is survived by her daughters, Betty Sue Reese of Lavern, California and Donna Jean Price of Taylor; five step-children; 35 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Johnny B. Ralston of Kahoka, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. West, two sisters and three brothers and her parents whom she anxiously awaited to rejoin. She was greatly loved and will be missed by her many friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17 at the Taylor Stake Center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow in the Lakeside Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16 at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake and one hour prior to services at the church.
