Faye Irene Tostado Baldry, age 64, died Jan. 19, 2005 in Scottsdale.
Irene was born March 29, 1940 in Holbrook, where she spent her life until serving in the Armed Forces from 1958 to 1961. While in the Army she became the first female paratrooper and her picture hangs in the Airborne Hall of Fame in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She made the cover of a national magazine, U.S. Lady, upon making her first jump.
Irene stayed busy doing what she loved most, staying involved with her children and grandchildren. The simple things in life brought her the most joy. Irene touched the lives of so many and the world is a better place because of her thoughtful and caring spirit. Her strength, courage, and wisdom will live on thru the lives of her children and grandchildren who will so deeply miss her.
Irene is survived by her six children, Marty (Kim) Flack of Tucson, Monty (Julie) Flack of Holbrook, Mandy Flack of Holbrook, Morey Flack of Holbrook, Misty (Tom) Lizarraga of Mesa, Marla (Michael) Queiruga of Holbrook ;and 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Tommie Casteneda of Glendale, Adella Candelaria of Holbrook; one brother, Florian Tostado of Tucson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Baldry; two brothers, Roy & Charlie Tostado; two sisters, Julia Benevidez and Inez Trujillo; her parents, Florian and Selena Tostado.
Family and friends gathered together to celebrate her life. A Rosary was held Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Funeral Mass following Wednesday, Jan. 26.
