The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, September 10, 2006 Dec.31, 1924 to Sept. 3, 2006 - Shirley (Smith) Hess Born: Ferndale, Calif., Raised on Sunny Slope Farm, Resided in Prescott 58 years. Preceded in death by her parents, Warren Locke Smith and Beulah Ellen Whippie Smith; her brother, Kent Smith; and sister, Eleanor Smith Vaughn. Passed peacefully at her home. She is survived by her brother, Gerould Smith; daughter, Robin Larson; son, Locke Ettinger; and four grandchildren whom she loved. Shirley was an occupational therapist at the VA Medical Center for 42 years and continued to volunteer. She was a charter member of the Mountain Spinners and Weavers Guild and belonged to many other organizations and groups of people. Her family and many, many friends and acquaintances loved her. WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED... She who is courageous and strong, In spite of being wronged... We know this woman. She who has loved with an open heart, Who does far more than her part... We know this woman. She who has gathered wisdom from the earth and deep within her soul, Always seeing the diamond in a piece of coal... We know this woman. She who has raised children to pass on her giving, And have passion for learning and living... We know this woman. She who teaches others to overcome Heartache, injury, disease and to carry on... We know this woman. She whose smile brings happiness and light Even in the shadow of the night... We know this woman. She who has met the challenge to simply be Yet is always open to what others may see... We know this woman She who is unafraid to move along her path, To share and live and laugh...
