GUNNELL, Donald Troy


The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Monday, May 17, 2010 Donald Troy Gunnell 1933 - 2010 Donald Troy Gunnell went home to his Savior on May 6, 2010. Don was born in Anthony, New Mexico on March 14, 1933 and moved to Glendale, Arizona in 1943. After graduating from Glendale High, Don married Gwen Rowland of Peoria in 1952 where they began farming and became prominent members of the dairy business. Don was a member of the original board of directors for the United Dairymen's Association. The Gunnell family moved to Camp Verde in 1964 to manage a ranch. Alongside careers he and Gwen have held in small businesses, Don worked with the 4-H Club, Little League teams, the Camp Verde School Board, Chamber of Commerce, and the Sedona Verde Valley Association of Realtors. Don is survived by his loving wife Gwen, daughters Bobbilyn Moore, Karen Blevins (John), sons Stan (Jennifer) and Doug, along with 12 grand children and 20 great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by brothers Larry (Marcia), Jack (Mary), and sister-in-law Bette Gunnell and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. Don was preceded in death by parents Ernest and Lorene Hudman Gunnell, brother Ernest, and son-in-law Michael J. Moore. God has blessed many lives with Don's walk with Christ, his devotion to family and friends, and his generosity and service to the community. Don's devotion to the Camp Verde Volunteer Fire Department for over 28 years was one of his greater joys. In Don's memory, his family suggests volunteering. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Parkside Community Church, 401 Camp Lincoln Road, Camp Verde, Arizona 86322.
