Isabella M. Schimmoller, 99, died at 2:45 a.m. Friday, April 23 at VanCrest Health Care Center in Delphos, Ohio. She was born Jan. 18, 1911 in Landeck, Ohio, to David and Lucy Suever Niemeyer.
On Sept. 7, 1932, she married Leon J. Shimmoller in Landeck, Ohio. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471 of Delphos; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1197 of Van Wert, Ohio; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 40.
She was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and bingo was her life. She enjoyed reading and fishing, but most of all, she enjoyed her family. She walked in every Relay for Life the last few years of her life. For 20 years she and Leon spent their winters in Florida.
Survivors include daughter Virginia (Walter) Brinkman of Wickenburg, Ariz.; sons Donald (Nancy) Shimmoller of Delphos, Ohio; James (Sandra) Shimmoller of Springfield, Ohio; Thomas Schimmoller of Delphos, Ohio; and Frank (Kathy) Schimmoller of Sudbury, Mass.; brother Norbert “Matt” Niemeyer of Winter Haven, Fla.; sister-in-law Sally Niemeyer of Delphos; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo on July 30, 1998; her parents David and Lucy Niemeyer; sister Adeline Horstman; brothers Arnold, Alphonse, and Bernard Niemeyer; grandchildren Catherine Brinkman and Jeffrey Schimmoller; and a great-grandchild Renee Schimmoller.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, with Fr. Melvin Verhoff officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery in Delphos. Memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life, the Activities Fund at VanCrest Health Care Center in Delphos, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
