Ray Hackey
(March 5, 1953 - May 14, 2010)
Raymond Edwin Hackey was born March 5, 1953, in Frederick, Maryland. He was the third son of Mary Agnes Daye and Raymond Edward Hackey. He went to be with Jesus on May 14, 2010.
Ray graduated from Gaithersburg High School of Montgomery County, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Ray served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart among other Merits. He earned his Chef certification through Anthony’s Fish Grotto in San Diego, CA, which led him down a path in the restaurant and catering business. He met his wife, Julie, while working at Footers Catering in Denver, CO. They were married in June of 1989, moved to Arizona and together they were raising three children.
Ray loved his family immensely and focused on providing the best life he could for them. He spent every spare minute with his children, taking them fishing, hiking and on trips around the area. An all-around athlete, he enjoyed playing football, basketball, golf and coaching youth football. Ray will be remembered as an outgoing, charismatic individual who always had a smile and the time to connect with everyone. He was a remarkable person and will be profoundly missed by all.
Ray is survived by his wife, Julie Hackey; son Caleb; daughters Alaina and Cassia; two brothers, Larry Hackey and Junior Brown and two sisters, Ella Mae Brown and Mary Alice Summerour.
