Zylpha T. Miller-Laney, 94, died peacefully Jan. 31, 2005 at The Carriage House in Snowflake where she was a resident for five years.
She was born Feb. 7, 1910 in Nebraska, the only daughter of Albert L. and Alice Clementine Simonton. She was raised in Gary, South Dakota and married Virgil G. Miller in 1929 and then moved to Flint, Michigan in 1937. In addition to raising her family, she was a machinist, real estate agent and was employed at Marvel Carburetor during the War. In 1951 the family moved to Tucson where she was employed at Hughes Aircraft. They made several moves during their married life and made wonderful friends wherever they went.
After the death of Virgil in 1976, she married Clarence R. Laney and resided in Huntington Beach, California and Phoenix. She enjoyed life to its fullest! She loved fishing, bowling, playing bingo and cards, sewing and various church activities.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn V. (Kendall) Taylor of Flushing, Michigan and Judy J. (Roger) Morgan of Snowflake; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and four nieces and one nephew.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Virgil and Clarence, son, Davey Lee Miller, her parents and three brothers, Lavern, Vurgil and Robert Simonton.
Services will be held Sat. Feb. 5 in Flint, Michigan.
The family extends sincere appreciation to Larry and Patty Matyas at The Carriage House and Charlene Hatten with the White Mountain Hospice for their loving care, kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to White Mountain Hospice in Lakeside.
