A. Jake Good, 66, died Jan. 31, 2005, at his home in Eagar.
Jake was born to Beauford Earl Good and Polly Alma Wadkins Good on March 18, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jake came from very humble beginnings. One of nine children, his parents were hard working migrant farmers. They instilled in him the value of hard work and family.
He served a tour in the United States Marine Corps in his late teens. He then married Loraina Stowell in 1958 and had four children with her. They and their spouses survive him; Alton Jake (Tracy) Good; daughter Barbie Jo (Rick) Marble; son Jerry James (Brenda) Good and daughter DiAnn Bernice (Art) Maxwell.
In 1967 Jake married Gloria Faye Meadows. He adopted her young son, John Edward and they had a daughter Mary Susan. Jake and Gloria were married and sealed for time and eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple in September 1972. John Edward (Judy) Good and Mary Susan (Patrick) McCoy also survive Jake. Jake loved young people. He worked with and for them as a coach and church leader for many years.
He and Gloria fostered and adopted several other children during their marriage; Melinda and LaVon Burnett, Little Jason, Wayne Arellano, Frances Jolee Imel and Nita Fernn Haynie. Jake and Gloria also helped raise their granddaughter Anna Marie Haynie, making a baker's dozen.
Jake was a man of God. He honored his priesthood. He was a family man. He lived for them. Jake was a self made, self educated man. He retired as a much sought-after construction engineer. He loved to hunt, fish, laugh and play with his grandchildren. He like people and people liked him. He loved his family and they loved him.
Jake died from Cruetzfelts-Jakobs Disease. How he contracted it is unknown. He was cared for in his last days by RTA Hospice care as well as neighbors, friends and family.
Besides his wife and children, 37 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren survive Jake. Also surviving him are his siblings; brothers Earl (Daphney), Ed, Robert (Charlene), Jimmy (Lilly) and Jack (Cathy); sisters Violet, Barbara Norton and Kathy (Ray) Mallett. He has 33 nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his step-father Roy Rhine, as well as his sister Violet's husband Wilson Farley.
A funeral services will be held at the Safford LDS Stake center, so that his friends and family can pay their respects. Friday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m.
Services for his friends and family in Round Valley will be Saturday, Feb 5 at the LDS Springerville Ward, Springerville, at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m.
