Tony Ray
Tony Ray Layton was born October 10, 1955 in Safford. He was the first child born to Joe and Le' Layton. Later his sister Marsha and brother Mark joined him. The family lived in Clifton before moving to Safford. He grew up in competing in rodeos and working on cars. He graduated from Safford High School in 1973.
He met Bobbie Jean Horlacher and they were married in 1974. They had three daughters, Jennifer, Jocette and Samie. Tony and Bobbie spent their first years of marriage in Safford then later moved to Mesa to raise their family.
Tony owned and operated a military surplus store called S.O.S. before going to work for McDonnell Douglas/Hughes Helicopters. A job injury then left him unable to work. He enjoyed his job building weaponry for the Apache Helicopters. In 1990 Tony moved his family back to the Safford area.
Tony and Bobbie divorced in 1992 and Tony moved to Bonita where he married Ellie DuBois in 1993. They were married for 4 years.
Tony loved his family. Many days were spent camping, hunting, hiking, and working on guns, cars and motorcycles. He will forever be missed.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 5th, at 10 a.m., at the Central L.D.S. Chapel by Bishop Steven Hooper of the Central Ward. Concluding services will follow at the Gila Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Central L.D.S. Chapel Relief Society Room.
