The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 03/04/2005 Sandy Renee Hurst, has passed away at 58 years young Feb. 24, 2005. She was born in Chicago, Illinois Oct. 3, 1946 and moved to Arizona in 1954 as a small child. In the past several years, she has enjoyed life as a kindergarten teacher at Clay Springs Elementary School and a park ranger for the United States Forest Service during the summertime. She cherished every child that was ever in her classroom. She loved working and helping people at the Mogollon Rim Visitor's Center and enjoyed putting on the children's programs at Canyon Point Amphitheater and in the nearby campgrounds where she was affectionately known as "Ranger Sandy". She was also an EMT and a voluntary firefighter for the Linden Fire Department. Prior to moving to Show Low in 1992, Sandy owned and operated Scottsdale Montessori School in Scottsdale. Sandy was a loving mother of five children. She was a very involved mother and PTA President at Yavapai Elementary School who organized many fun and educational events for the schoolchildren. She is survived by her husband, Todd Hurst; her parents, Billie "Liz" Martens and Edward Martens (Keddy); her daughters, Sherry Pichon (Carson), Carrie Frazer (Mark), and her sons, Randy Davis-Yates (Robin), William "Bill" Davis and their father Duane Davis; her step-daughter, Hailey Niemi (J.D.); her sister, Darlene "Boots: Justus (Bill); her brother, Ron Martens. Seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren additionally survive her. Her youngest daughter, Bobbie Davis, and her brother, Alan Martens, preceded her to heaven. Services in the Show Low area were held Monday, Feb. 28 at St. Mary Of The Angels Catholic Church, 1915 S. Penrod Ln. in Pinetop. Services in the Phoenix area will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 739 West Erie Street in Chandler. Sandy, you blessed so many people with your tremendous caring and compassion, love of children, knowledge and appreciation of nature, and your legacy that continues to grow in the children you taught. As an alternative to flowers, the family asks contributions be made to a college trust fund set up for one of Sandy's grandchildren, Harley M.
