Captain R.M. Bernard, 64, unexpectedly died in Flagstaff on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan, to Christopher William and Yvonrie Robichaud Bernard on June 6, 1943.
Survivors include his wife Gail of 22 years; son Robert Wiese of Prescott; her husband Jeff Talley; grandchildren Caitlin and Zane of Mesa; one sister, Kris Bernard; and three nieces Corinne, Magdalen and Eliana of Australia. He leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
Ron began flying for America West Airlines in Tempe in 1986 and retired in 2003. He began his extensive career in Alaska flying Bush planes and jets, and was considered by many other pilots as a "natural" pilot.
His cremated ashes will be sprinkled in Alaska next spring as per his wishes.
The grieving family will schedule a Celebration of his life at their Prescott home at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local Humane Society would be appreciated.
