HARSHMAN, Gerald Leroy

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Gerald Harshman went to be with Jesus and his beloved wife Grace on September 19, 2007. Born in Milton Center, Ohio, March 3, 1923, he was the eleventh of 15 children. He joined the Army in 1943, serving in Normandy, France and the Rhineland. After being wounded and honorably discharged, they settled in Phoenix, Ariz., rearing two daughters and a son in a house he built himself. He worked a number of jobs, lastly as a diesel mechanic. Being unable to work after cancer surgery gave him more opportunity to work at his church, Westwood Assembly of God. He organized a food program there that fed hundreds of needy people each week. Being able to fix anything, he kept the church in good order. Fourteen years ago, he and Grace moved to the Arizona Pioneers' Home in Prescott. There he began woodworking, making Christmas toys for needy children, hand-carved canes, and many wood projects that can be seen around the home, most notably a huge lighted star hung on the side of the building for Christmas. We know he is in heaven, basking in the love of Jesus and reuniting with Grace, with whom he spent nearly 65 years here on earth, and with their much-loved daughter Joyce. Those left behind will miss him, daughter Carol(Jean) Lussier; son Joe; grandchildren Stephanie Lussier, Lauren Lussier, Ashley Harshman, Bradley Harshman, Michelle Costantino, Mathew Costantino; and great-grandson, Kyle Pittman. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Hospice. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the Arizona Pioneers' Home, 300 S. McCormick St, Prescott. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale. A Graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
