FUHST, Steve Warren


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, August 26, 2007 Stephan Warren Fuhst 53, of Mayer, Ariz., was born on Dec. 26, 1953, in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., to Joan Curran Fuhst and Warren Fuhst. He died at the Maricopa County Burn Unit in Phoenix on Aug. 20, 2007, following a tragic accident at his home. Steve graduated from Boston College, where he played football and majored in English. He spent his career working in Social service positions including a rehabilitation program for incarcerated men in Rhode Island, homeless persons' shelter in Phoenix. Steve married Kelly Vidal-Waggoner on March 17, 2004, and they were so very happy together. He is survived by his wife Kelly, his brothers Cliff (Paula) and Terry, his step-father Ted Grutzmacher, and many friends and relatives in Arizona, New York, and Ireland. Steve was preceded in death by his mother Joan and his father Warren. Steve was a devout Christian and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Prescott Valley, under Pastor Charlie Hail. Steve was a gentle hero to all who knew him. He gave his time, energy, and creativity to anyone he met. Steve loved to read and often gave books as gifts. He had a passion for writing, whether he was working on a song, a novel, or a play. He was a great storyteller. He loved his guitar. He loved his wife. He loved life. His family and friends are deeply shocked and saddened by his loss, but he is in heaven now and his guiding light will never burn out. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Prescott Valley on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at 6 p.m. A second service will take place at the Sunnyslope Mennonite Church in Phoenix on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the House of Refuge at the Sunnyslope Church, the Maricopa County Burn Unit, or a charity of your choice.
