Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Sunday, May 23, 2010 Willie Bell "Aunt Bell" Scallions Valle, 90, died Thursday, May 20, 2010. Mrs. Valle was born in Tupelo, Miss., on Sept. 10, 1919. As a young girl, she babysat for a few neighbors,including a very young Elvis Presley. At age 16, she became a mill worker to help support her family. After her marriage to Lee Edward Scallions (and the end of WWII), she became a homemaker. Following a move to Arkansas and due to Lee's health, they moved to Gilbert in 1976. Upon Mr. Scallions' death, she became very active in the Gilbert Senior's Center, being named "Volunteer of the Year" in 1988. There she met and married her second husband, Avis Valle. Upon his death and after the care and death of her sister, Laura, she moved to Winslow in 2002, to live near a nephew. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her late husband and best friend, Avis Valle; the love of her life and husband of 46 years, Lee Edward Scallions, and their infant son; parents Minnie Bell and Willie James Neely; and sister Laura Gaines. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Cave Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the City of Winslow (Winslow Animal Shelter) at 119 E.
