ROGERS, Glyn


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 02/11/2005 Glyn Rogers, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005 in Overgaard. He was born July 20, 1931 to Jasper and Juanita Rogers. His father was farming at the time of his birth but was a carpenter by trade. Glyn was the oldest living child. He had five brothers and two sisters; they were James Ray, Ruth Elizabeth, Harold, Rebecca or "Polly" as she liked to be called, David, Jimmy, and Boyd. Glyn went to school in Springhill, Texas, graduating in 1948. In July of that year Glen joined the Marine Corps, when he was 17 years of age. He also served a short stint in the Air Force. In 1953 he began his lifelong career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer and Sergeant for Casa Grande Police Department. During this time, he met and married Lavon Heffner with her daughter, (Cheri) and his daughter (Laura) later followed by one son together (Gary) they became a family. In 1959 Glyn became a criminal investigator for Pinal County Sheriff's Office in Casa Grande as well as a Constable in Casa Grande shortly thereafter. He then became a Deputy Sheriff in Navajo County serving under Sheriff Glen Flake in Winslow in 1961. In 1962 Glyn started his federal career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs serving in Whiteriver on the Whiteriver Apache Reservation as a Captain, Juvenile Officer, and a Criminal Investigator. In 1966 Glyn and his family moved to the Hopi Indian Reservation at Keams Canyon. In 1969 they transferred to the Mescalero Apache Reservation living in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Glyn retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1973 at which time he moved to Winslow and began working as a constable and a special investigator for an Attorney. In 1973 Glyn began working for Sheriff Marvin Gillespie at Navajo County rising to the rank of Lieutenant and retiring from Navajo County in 1989. In 1985 Glyn met and married Aleene Cluff. Together with Glyn's three children and Aleene's five children (David, Tracy, Dalene, Russell, and Tauna) this made an even larger family. Retired, they eventually ended up in Heber, where they could enjoy the mountain, camp, hunt, fish, and well retire. Glyn is survived by his wife, Aleene; eight children; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild and two more on the way; his mother, Juanita of Burkburnett, Texas; his brothers, Harold, David and Jimmy; sisters, Ruth Fain and Polly Ballard. Memorial Services were held Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Heber Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
