Nathan Douglas White, age 15, passed away March 28, 2010 (born February 15, 1995). Nathan is survived by his grandparents, John and Carol White, with whom he lived; his three siblings, Jonathan, Audriana and Wyatt; his adopted father, Art Velasco; his great-grandparents, Richard and Barbara Harris; his aunt, Jennie (Doug) Dawson, of California; three cousins, Tayler, Zachery, and Ashley Dawson, of California; two great aunts, Pam (Chuck) Whetstone and Karla Clark of Florida; his uncle, Skip Harris, of Virginia; six second-cousins, Tony, Derek, of Illinois, and Travis Parisi, of Illinois, and Joshua, of Colorado, Ronnie Rae, of California, and Katie Rachel Clark of Illinois; three great-great aunts, Jeannette (Phil) McGriffin, Carolyn (John) Underhill and Judy Tovey; and great-great uncle, Ronnie (Marilyn) Harris. Nathan is also survived by Brian Hopper and his aunt, Stephanie (Andy) Hopper-Dante; his great-grandmother, Jane Horning; his grandmother, Janis Reinhold; his grandfather, Dave Hopper, of Virginia; and his great-aunts, Carol (Steve) Blankenship, and Peggy (Jim) Wood.
Nathan was so excited to see his house in Lake Havasu City and his cousins again in California, but that didn’t happen.
When Nathan came to live in Granger with his grandparents, he wanted nothing more than to just be a kid. He loved his home, Penn High School, his family and his friends. Nathan was a caring, companionate young man that loved people. Nathan got to see it snow for the first time in his life, and he was so excited. He also joined the Penn Ski Club and learned how to snowboard. Before Nathan moved to Granger, he spent many summers at his grandparent’s cottage at Diamond Lake. He loved wakeboarding, swimming, fishing, sailing and just laughing and hanging out with his cousins. The Lake Cottage was the place for family and fun, and there was plenty of that. And now, as Nathan would say, “It’s Hug Time.” My Dear Nathan, “You will be missed by all.”
Donations can be made to the “Nathan Douglas White Scholarship” fund at Penn High School.
A memorial service for Nathan was at 1 p.m. Saturday at College Park Missionary Church, 2014 Liberty Drive in Mishawaka, Ind.
