Lavane U. Alkire, 80, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 in Show Low. 
     
She was born in Clarkson, Nebraska where she grew up and attended school. Following high school she attended Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. She then married and had two children. Lavane moved to Tucson, in 1955 where she worked in real estate before coming to the White Mountains. In 1959, she began working at Navopache Electric Co-op and worked there for 35 years, retiring in 1988 as an execute assistant.
      
Lavane is survived by two grandchildren; Michelle K. Reeves of Eagar and Chuck K. Orona of Springerville; and six great-grandchildren.
