COULTER, Betty Jacqueline

(Maiden Name: Hoesman)

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Published Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Betty Jacqueline Hoesman Coulter, 82, formerly of Lake Havasu City, passed away May 23, 2010 in Lahaina on the beautiful island of Maui, where she wanted to live the rest of her life out. Who of us knew that it would be such a short stay. She was born to Julius William and Lillian Anna (Anderson) Hoesman June the 10, 1927, in Columbus, Ind. Betty married the man of her dreams, her best friend, and as she called him, Her Knight in Shining Armor, Dallas Coulter, in February 1950 in Columbus, Ind. At that time, she became the mother of six children, at the tender age of 22. She had one child and Dallas had five children to give unto her care. They then added two more to their already large and loving family. They all became a true yours, mine and ours family but only in the eyes of the world. In their own world it was all one big happy family. During World War II, Betty, as a young woman, left home to work in a factory in Ohio for the war effort. It wasn’t easy work but it did give her good work ethics and a sense of accomplishment and pride. She had to return home to care for an ill mother. Throughout her life, she had many accomplishments in the working world and in her personal life. She held positions in some of her places of employment that previously had only been held by men. Betty was considered a competent and valuable employee by many. Betty pioneered some of the first chapters of clubs for women in the areas that she had resided in throughout her life, always believing that there was a chance for every woman to reach her highest goals, no matter what they were striving for. She will be remembered fondly by several of those women that she has helped. She was an accomplished seamstress, having made all seven wedding gowns for her daughters and bridal attendees as well; even some prom dresses for her namesake granddaughter. That was only one of Betty’s many talents. In 1992, Betty with her husband, Dallas, moved from Landers, Calif., to Lake Havasu City to be closer to a daughter after losing their home to the 1992 earthquake. They were long-time members of Lakeview Community Church. Betty is survived by her children, daughters, Maxine (Rick) Hazen, of Maui, Janice (Jim) McDaniel, of Lake Havasu City, Doris (Duane) Nash, of Ft. Towson, Okla., Glenna (Robert) Head, of Lancaster, Calif., Niki Buss, of Woodland, Calif., Kay Coykendall (Ervie Taylor), of Las Vegas, Nev., Rita Tanner (Stan Cole), of Landers, Calif. and only son, David (Jojo) Coulter, of Mesa and her brother-in-law, Walter Coulter of 29 Palms, Calif. There are also 26 grandchildren, Richard Jr., Tabatha, Aurora, Mary, Paul, Wayne, Wyatt, Roger, Bonnie, Richard, Brenda, Thomas, Angela, Tonya, Larry Jr. Suzanne, Jerry, Timothy, Kimberly, Christina, Terry Allen, David Jr., Sheena, Leena, Lynette and Edward. Also surviving are 57 great-grandchildren and numerous great great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her father, mother, and an older brother. Also her Knight in Shining Armor, Dallas, will once again be at her side. He has been waiting for her. Those of us left behind must remember what she had told us, When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no Rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little — But not too long. And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we shared. Miss me — But let me go. For this journey that we all must take and each must go alone. It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, a step on the road home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the family and friends that we know and bury your sorrows in good deeds. Miss me, but let me go. We shall all miss you Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, dearly, but we must let you go. Memorial services will be the May 27 in Lahaina, Maui. In lieu of any flowers, the family requests you make donations to your favorite charity in Betty’s name.
