The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 05/28/2010 Buck Kitcheyan Sr., 73, of San Carlos died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Palm Valley Rehabillitation Center in Goodyear. He was born in San Carlos Sept. 11, 1936 to John and Mabel (Dosela) Kitcheyan. He worked as an accountant for the state of Arizona. He was also a member of the International Tribal Council of Arizona and the National Congress of American Indian and the Arizona Commission on Indian Affairs. In 1974, he was elected chairman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe served until 1978. He was re-elected again in 1986 thru 1990. He was a former president of As Creek Cattle Association and was well known in the political arena. Buck also was a member on the school board for the Rice School District for 12 years and was responsible for having the San Carlos High School built. He enjoyed fishing, sightseeing and spending time at the casino. He initiated the George Belvado Baseball Tournament. Buck is survived by his wife Geraldine Kitcheyan; daughters Karen Jones, Renelle D. Kitcheyan; sons Aaron Kitcheyan, Terry D. Kitcheyan (Karen), Mark A. Kitcheyan and Buck Kitcheyan; brother Evans Kitcheyan (Victoria) and 15 grandchildren. A visitation will be held Friday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to noon at Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe. A wake will start at 4 p.m. Friday, May 28 at the Kitcheyan residence on Kitcheyan Road in San Carlos. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at the Rice School gym in San Carlos.
