OLIVERIA, Eleanor Leitha

(Maiden Name: Midthun)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, May 26, 2010 Eleanor Leitha (Midthun) Oliveria passed away peacefully on May 22 in Glendale, Ariz., leaving behind a family that loved her deeply. She was 93. She is survived by her four children, Leslie Oliveria; Phyllis Carr, husband Steve and daughter Michelle; Alison Reever, her fiancé Terry Himes, Alison's son and daughter-in-law Ben and Wendy Kimball and their children Bailey and Ben Pat; and David Oliveria, his wife, KC, and their children Tad and Chelsey. Eleanor lost her husband, Tom, more than 50 years ago. Born in San Francisco on Oct. 6, 1916, and raised in Portland, Ore., she and Tom lived in San Jose, Calif., until his passing. She moved the family to Prescott, Ariz., in 1967 where she lived until early this century, when she moved to Glendale to be closer to her family. She earned her nursing certificate in 1939 and worked at Agnew State Hospital in California and the Prescott VA Center. A five-time cancer survivor, Eleanor was a pistol. Never one to sit still, she was a committed volunteer with the Prescott Docents, Arizona Nurses Association, Dress a Child and Eastern Star of Prescott, where she was most proud of her Worthy Matron title. She also was involved with the 1st Congregational Church and American Lutheran Church of Prescott and was a past President of Prescott Toastmistress, never missing a chance to use her speaking skills at her frequent dinner parties. Eleanor loved to travel, to entertain and to be entertained. She was the happiest serving friends and family breakfast, lunch or dinner at her Pleasant Street dining room table. She loved conversation and stories. It was her wish to be cremated and buried next to her husband, Tom, in San Francisco, so no services are planned. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, which provided tremendous comfort to Eleanor and her family during her final days. Information provided by survivors.
