SANFORD, Alfred


The Daily Sun 9/30/1946 Word was received here Saturday morning of the death of Alfred "Al" Sanford, age 65, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Burgett at Fort Devens, Mass. The deceased has been in poor health the past three years, and two weeksago with his wife left their home at Chandler to go to the eastern city to visit his daughter and her husband, Major George Burgett. It is believed by Mrs. A. Pilcher, his sister, that funeral services will be held in Chandler, but his interment will be in Flagstaff in the family plot. Mr. Sanford was among the early stockman who came to Northern Arizona and settled in Flagstaff. A number of years ago he was associated with the late Tom E. Pollock in the sheep and cattle business. For the past 15 years he and his wife and family made their home on a ranch near Chandler. Poor health forced him to sell the ranch and retire and he moved to Chandler several years ago. The Sanford's home here on North Leroux is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Tony Kock. Other than Mrs. Pilcher of Flagstaff, he is survived by his wife, who was with him at the time of death, two daughters, Mrs. Burgett and Mrs. Mary Lowry of Hollywood,Cal., and a son, Bill Sanford, now stationed in Hong Kong,China, and two brothers, Charles Sanford of Phoenix and Flagstaff, George H. Sanford of Vancouver, Wash., and two sisters, Mrs. Howard Kilworth of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs.Bryan Duce of Corvallis, Oregon, Another son, Tom Sanford,was killed in a plane crash at Coleman Field, Texas, two years ago.
