HOVENGA, LaVerne Bernard


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, August 29, 2007 LaVerne Bernard Hovenga, 73, of Prescott, Ariz., was born March 22, 1934, in Dumont, Iowa, to Bennie and Grace Hovenga. He died of Alzheimer’s Disease at Family Hospice Care, on Aug. 22, 2007. LaVern married Jeradine Laidig on Dec. 31, 1957, and they enjoyed their life together missing their 50th anniversary by four months. He is survived by his wife, Jeradine; their two sons, Trent, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Kirk, of Weston, Fla.; and his eight grandchildren, Bard, Claire, Hunter, Madeline and Van, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kyle and Paige, of Phoenix, and Audrey, of Weston, Fla. He retired March 1992 after 24 years from John Deere Technical Center in Moline, Ill. Vern enjoyed restoring classic automobiles with great attention to detail. He was respected and loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. LaVerne requested his body be donated and this was taken care of by Science Care of Phoenix.
