Leona L. Partlow Howard Swette passed away March 12, 2010 in Arvada, Colo., where she had been a resident since 2006. Mrs. Swette also lived in Lake Havasu City for 34 years after being a resident of Iowa from her birth until the death of her first husband, Donald Howard, in 1972.
Leona was the second of four daughters born to Glenn and Lillian Partlow in Estherville, Iowa, on Dec. 15, 1919. She married Donald M. Howard, also of Des Moines, in 1939. Together, they had seven children, Diane Husome Smith, Harriett Simpson (Bill), Brian (Ruth), Tonia Howard Hulm (Gene), Mimi Coughlin (Rick), Carmen Likins (Randy) and Gloria Fletcher (Terry).
Following her move to Lake Havasu City, Leona married Glen Swette and became “mom” to his six adult children, Sharon, Kathy, Glen Jr., Brian, Rob and Mary. Leona also served as church secretary for several years at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Havasu City.
Left to cherish her memory are six of her seven children and her two younger sisters, Erma Luchsinger Rogalla and Beverly Petersen. All of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren will fondly remember her.
Funeral services were at St. Therese Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa.
