The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/06/2005 Oma "Billy Joe" Gray Hoopes, 78, died April 29, 2005 in Show Low. She was born in New Bern, North Carolina where she grew up and attended school. Following graduation she moved to Key West with her brother. While there, she met Floyd Hoopes who was stationed in Key West in the Navy and they were married in 1965. They traveled to California and Guam on Naval assignments before retiring to the White Mountains in 1987. In her free time Billy Joe enjoyed needlework and reading and especially fishing the White Mountain lakes. She was outgoing and very open to everyone she met and was a wonderful mother and wife. She is survived by her husband Floyd Hoopes of Show Low; one daughter, Nedra (David) Totherow of Lakeside; one sister, Ida Mae Curtis of New Bern, N.C.; two grandsons, Stacey and Eric; and three great-grandchildren, Shannon, Dominic and Blake.
