The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 5/06/2005 Valerie Gay Mettie, 64, died April 27, 2005 in Bouse, Arizona. She was born in California to James and Irene Wolford. When she was 19 she married Walter Danley and had five sons, the epitome of today's "Soccer Mom" she was always at the Little League Field. In 1977 Valerie moved to Lakeside. She worked as a waitress throughout her lifetime. In 1988 she married Louis Mettie. Valerie had a very green thumb, creating a jungle of houseplants and gardening her own vegetables. She was a excellent cook but most of all she enjoyed her family and having them around her. Many holiday dinners were prepared and hosted by this wonderful woman. Valerie was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized in January of 2000, she later had the privilege of going thru the Mesa Arizona Temple. She will be deeply missed by all. Valerie is survived by her husband, Louis Mettie of Lakeside; sons, Craig Danley, Brett Danley both of Long Beach, CA, Derek Danley of Chino, CA, Damon Danley of Corona, CA, Aaron Danley of Gilbert; 12 Grandchildren; sister, Peggy Neilson of Queen Creek; brothers, James Wolford of Corona, CA, Eric Schmitz of Helmet, CA, Howard Schmitz of Buena Park, CA. She was preceded in death by her father, James Wolford; mother and step-father, Irene and Harold Schmitz. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Pinetop-Lakeside Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held one-hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
