COUTS, Charles Robert (Charlie)

Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Thursday, June 3, 2010 Charles Robert "Charlie" Couts, 79, of Phoenix, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, in Phoenix, surrounded by the love of his family. Mr. Couts was born Sept. 8, 1930, in Pike County, Ind. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and the U.S. National Guard for six years before embarking in a 41-year career in the coal mining industry, of which 39 were spent with Peabody Coal Company. Mr. Couts is survived by his wife of 58 years, Chloretta "Rae" (Simmons) Couts; children David Couts, Gary Couts, Chris Couts (Julie) and Jeffrey Couts; two grandchildren; sisters Louella Wellmeyer and Margaret Rothrock (Bill); and brothers Jack Couts (Anita) and Paul Couts (Marcia). Memorial services will be in Page at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions made to the Arizona Heart Institution and/or Hospice of the Valley. Advantage Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements.
