Floyd Earl Friend, age 89, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010. He was born on Feb. 24, 1921 in Hockerville, Okla. to Alex and Juanita Lucille (Scott) Friend.
He was a member of Trinity Chapel and member of V.F.W., EX P.O.W. Association and American Legion.
He enlisted in the United States Army after Pearl Harbor and was honorably discharged after 22 years as a Sgt. First Class. He was captured at the Battle of the Bulge December of 1944 and released at the end of the war. He was a prison guard at Arizona State Prison and a bus driver from Phoenix Transit Authority. In 1961, Floyd was named “Man of the Year” in the Arizona Silver Belt. From 1960-64, he was the local army recruiter for the area.
