DODD, Charles V., Sr.


Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona Wednesday, Jun 2nd, 2010 Charles V. Dodd, Sr., age 82 of Globe, Ariz. passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010. He was born in Wheatley, Ark. on Oct. 17, 1927, the son of Evelyn Josephine (Mayhan) and William Andrew “Arky” Dodd. Charles proudly served, at the age of 15, in the United States Navy during World War II, on the USS Princeton which was sunk on Oct. 24, 1944 in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was one of 1, 361 crewmen that were rescued. He retired after 37 years from Copper Cities and Pinto Valley in 1986. He was a member of Central Heights Baptist Church, was with the Gila County Rescue Squad for 20 years, with the Gila County Office of Civil Defense for 30 years, and a volunteer amateur radio operator. He loved to fish and hunt, but the single most important thing in his life was being with his family and friends. Charles will be greatly missed and warmly remembered by all who knew him. Charles V. Dodd, Sr. leaves behind in loving memory his wife of 62 years, Rosa Lee Dodd whom he married on April 9, 1948, of Globe, Ariz.; five children, John H. Dodd of Globe, Ariz., Charles V. (Marlena) Dodd, Jr. of Wittmann, Ariz., Sharon K. (Randy) Warren of Mesquite, Texas, Dennis L. (Pat) Dodd of Globe, Ariz. and Debbie L. (Scott) De Los Reyes of Surprise, Ariz.; one brother, Joe (Carolyn) Dodd of Young, Ariz.; one sister, Ula “Dott” (Harvey) Cassidy of Flagstaff, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren, Virgil, Christine, Lori, Charles, Valerie, Shawna, Adam, Jennifer, Brandy, Ryan and Devyn; and twelve great grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and William Dodd, siblings John, Noel, Maudie and Clarence. Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Central Heights Baptist Church, 5468 S. Apache Avenue, Central Heights, Ariz.
