MILLS, Vaughn Rue


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/13/2005 Vaughn Rue Mills, 70, died unexpectedly May 8, 2005, due to complications after heart surgery in Mesa. He was born Dec. 22, 1934, in Show Low, to Eph and Fenella Mills. He attended school in Snowflake, participating in major athletic programs, and served as student body president. He also attended Eastern Arizona Jr. College and Arizona State University, majoring in business finance. Vaughn worked for over 30 years in the banking industry in California and Utah and served as former President of the Corral de Terra Country Club in Salinas, California. He served a three-year mission in Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church positions including two terms of Bishop; one in El Centro, Calif., and another in Salinas. He married Evelyn Marie Richards June 26, 1959, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He enjoyed golf, building houses for the family, doing crossword puzzles, reading and playing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, eldest brother and granddaughter. He is survived by his wife of 45 years and his five children: Telvin (Sherilyn) Mills of Cedar Hills, Utah, Owen (Sheri Ann) Mills of Mesa, and Mardi (Brian) Woodward of Evanston, Wyo. He has 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Friday, May 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler and one hour prior to service. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at the LDS Chapel on 2958 S. Recker Road in Higley. Arrangements were under the direction of Bunker's Desert View Chapel.
