Jean (Mitzie) Butz James, 88, died Aug. 18, 2007, at the Deep Well Ranch, her home since 1955, when she and her late husband, Harold, moved to Prescott from Wyoming.
Mitzi was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., where she was raised. After graduating from Scripps College in Claremont, Calif., she moved to Wyoming where she met and married Harold.
Mitzie and Harold were ranchers and philanthropists, participating in numerous civic organizations and project. Mitzie was instrumental in funding the Prescott YMCA’s community center, which is named in honor of her late husband. Mitzie was also a major benefactor to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center and Chapel Rock Camp and Conference Center. Mitzi was a long-standing member of PEO Chapter Y.
An active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Mitzie greatly enjoyed the worship of the church and the friendships she had with parishioners.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to either the Memorial Fund at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 2000 Shepard’s Lane, Prescott, Ariz., 86301 or the Building Fund at the Harold James YMCA Community Center, 750 Whipple St., Prescott, Ariz.
